Dangerous driver tracked and arrested

Police have arrested a man driving dangerously and weaving through traffic through the northern suburbs and CBD last night.

About 8.15pm on Thursday 26 January, police spotted a white Toyota sedan speeding along Main North Road at Elizabeth East.

PolAir were quickly alerted and took over observation of the car from the air. The Toyota was tracked as it continued speeding south on Main North Road towards the city.

On a number of occasions, the car was seen to drive through red lights and also on the incorrect side of the road.

The car hit a kerb on Prospect Road causing damage to its front tyre but it continued travelling south into North Adelaide and through the CBD along King William Road.

PolAir tracked it as it headed east on Greenhill Road until it eventually came to a stop in Laurel Avenue, Tusmore. The driver was arrested without incident about 8.45pm.

A 52-year-old man from Victoria was charged with a number of offences including drink driving, dangerous driving to escape police and extreme speed.

He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
