Police have charged a man with several offences including dangerous driving after a vehicle allegedly fled from police in Wurtulla last night, November 7, Queensland Police say.
Around 7.40pm police were called to Oceanic Drive concerning a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival the vehicle sped off and failed to stop for police.
Police followed the vehicle with the driver allegedly travelling at excessive speed in a number of back streets before turning into Gannawarra Drive where Polair2 commenced tracking the car.
The vehicle travelled north on the Bruce Highway before exiting onto the Nambour Bli Bli Road heading towards Nambour.
The vehicle at one point turned into Nicol Street where police will allege a marked police vehicle was rammed, damaging the front bumper and bonnet of the vehicle, when the suspect vehicle sped off.
The vehicle momentarily stopped in Dulong Road where two passengers, a man and women, got out of the car however they were quickly taken into custody by police.
The vehicle continued travelling north with police successfully deploying a tyre deflation device (stingers) on Mapelton Road, Nambour.
The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Matthew Street and Coronation Drive, Nambour at around 9pm. Police will allege the male driver, and now sole occupant of the vehicle, refused to leave the vehicle and struggled violently with officers before being restrained with the assistance of a police dog.
The man sustained a dog bite to his calf for which he received medical treatment.
He has been charged with 18 offences some of which include: two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, five counts of stealing, one count each of possessing and receiving tainted property, possession of dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine) and obstruct and evade police.
He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
Investigations are continuing.
