Dangerous driving charge at Rochedale South, QLD

Police have charged a man after he allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road at speed in a stolen vehicle overnight, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged on the night of March 10, a Mercedes-Benz 320E was stolen from a business premises at Murarrie.

At approximately 10.20pm on March 15, police were contacted by a member of the public about the manner of driving of a Mercedes-Benz in Wishart.

Police subsequently located the vehicle in Lani Street and it drove onto the M1 Motorway headed south. The vehicle exited the motorway onto Chatsworth Road at Daisy Hill and travelled along a number of suburban streets before heading south on Rochedale Road at Rochedale South.

An unmarked police vehicle then activated lights and sirens behind the vehicle and indicated for the driver to pull over. The vehicle accelerated away from police and crossed to the wrong side of the road before it turned into Springwood Road and then into Pannikin Street. At the end of Pannikin Street the Mercedes-Benz has left the road and smashed through a wooden bollard into an adjoining park. The vehicle has crossed the park into a yard in Kumbari Street where it has hit a tree.

Police arrested the driver of the car at the scene.

It will be further alleged the vehicle was involved in three petrol drive off’s at service stations over the last three days.

A 36-year-old Kallangur man has been charged with one count each of dangerous driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fail to stop motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, two counts of obstruct police and three counts of stealing. He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today, March 16.
