Dangerous Driving Charges, Helensvale

Police have charged a man following a traffic crash in Helensvale yesterday afternoon, 20 December.

It will be alleged around 4.20pm, officers saw a grey Peugeot driving dangerously on Dreamworld Parkway, Coomera.

Prior to any attempted intercept of the vehicle, it allegedly drove away at speed towards Helensvale and police lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, police were called to reports of a two-vehicle traffic crash involving the same Peugeot and a white Ford van on Hope Island Road, Helensvale.

It is alleged the driver of the Peugeot, a 35-year-old Bellbird Park man, then fled the scene on foot while his passenger, a 56-year-old Bellbird Park man, remained in the vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford, a 29-year-old Robina man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police located the driver of the Peugeot a short distance away and took him into custody.

He has since been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, did drive U.I.L. and driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance.

The man is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on 8 January 2026.

Anyone with relevant footage of the Peugeot around the time of the incident is urged to contact police.
