Dangerous Driving Incident At Gold Coast

Police are investigating a dangerous driving incident at Surfers Paradise yesterday evening, 23 October.

Shortly before 9pm, a Toyota Hilux utility was reported to have been driving dangerously on the Esplanade before coming to a stop near a metal barrier at the intersection with Staghorn Avenue.

The Toyota is alleged to have then been driven deliberately into the barrier, causing it to fall and injure a 40-year-old Labrador man.

Members of the public attempted to restrain the driver, a 31-year-old Surfers Paradise man, but he is alleged to have fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Officers located the driver nearby a short time later.

He sustained a dog bite during the arrest and received medical assistance at the scene before being transported to hospital for treatment.

The 40-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was also transported to hospital.

Investigations are ongoing.
