Dangerous driving incident – Townsville

Police continue to investigate a dangerous driving incident that occurred in Townsville overnight, Queensland Police say.

Around 2.55am patrolling police observed a stolen vehicle driving dangerously on Nathan Street. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle with it failing to stop.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed in Charles Street with all four tyres driving over the device and deflating.

The vehicle continued on for a short period of time with the driver attempting to drive from the scene, however he lost control and crashed into a power pole. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle fled on foot.

The vehicle was stolen in the early hours of New Year’s Day during a break-in of a Hyde Park home in which property, including a second vehicle being a silver Toyota Hilux Utility, was also stolen.

The stolen utility sustained damage to the rear passenger compartment and the tyres.
