Detectives from the Rockhampton Criminal Investigation Branch are appealing for public assistance to locate a man and a woman they believe can assist with investigations into multiple instances of stealing vehicles and driving dangerously through local streets.

Police would like to speak to 22-year-old Alex Rankin and 29-year-old Demi Warcon and are appealing for the pair to contact them.

At 11am yesterday (May 20) a stolen Silver Audi Q7 was travelling along Queen Elizabeth Drive southbound, towards Rockhampton City, and appeared to intend to travel left over the Fitzroy Bridge.

However, the Audi suddenly cut across three lanes of traffic into the right lane to turn onto Bridge Street.

An unmarked police vehicle was travelling along Queen Elizabeth Drive at the time, when they sighted the stolen vehicle and activated police lights and sirens. The Audi then stopped at a red light.

Police exited their car and approached the driver and passenger side doors of the stolen vehicle when it suddenly reversed, colliding with the car behind and then accelerated forwards at speed, smashing into the car in front.

The impact pushed the car in front forward enough for the stolen vehicle to turn left onto Lakes Creek Road and ran a red traffic light in the process.

Police followed with lights and sirens, however the vehicle evaded officers and drove down Lakes Creek Road dangerously and at speed, before turning right onto Goodsall Street where it was last sighted.

The Audi was later found on fire at 2pm on Hopper Road at Gracemere.

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey, Officer in Charge of Rockhampton CIB said this is one of the most recent, dangerous incidents we believe the pair can assist investigators with.

"We believe there are at least five other instances where dangerous driving incidents, which has caused injury to innocent road users.

"These incidents clearly demonstrate a callous disregard for other people's property or any respect for the damage and potential serious injury, or worse caused by this manner of reckless behaviour.

"We are appealing for anyone who knows the whereabouts of these two, to let police know immediately," Detective Senior Sergeant Peachey said.
