Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle charges, Thursday Island

Police have charged a man after a car crashed into residence on Thursday Island this morning, Queensland Police say.

Officers were called to an address on Poruma Street at 9.40am following reports a car had rolled down a driveway into the veranda of the property and damaged a water mains pipe.

It will be alleged that two men were involved in an altercation, and one of the men disengaged the park break on a stationary car causing it to roll down the driveway.

No one was physically injured as a result of the incident, and the damage and structural integrity of the property will be assessed.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts of wilful damage.

He is due to appear in the Thursday Island Magistrates Court on January 17.
