Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Gold Coast

Police have charged a man after it is alleged a stolen vehicle was driven dangerously through the Gold Coast area on Saturday night, March 18, 2017, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged around 7.55pm POLAIR 1 detected a high speed vehicle on the M1 at Highland Park. POLAIR 1 maintained visual of the vehicle while an unmarked police car attempted to intercept the vehicle at Wardoo Street.

It will be alleged the vehicle failed to stop for police and continued to be driven dangerously through Southport, Pacific Pines and Helensvale.

POLAIR 1 tracked the vehicle before officers successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on Helensvale Road at Helensvale.

The vehicle continued for a distance with three blown tyres before police intercepted it on Kopps Road at Oxenford.

The male driver and his male passenger were taken into custody at the scene without incident.

A 22-year-old man of no fixed place of abode has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, fraud, stealing, drug and traffic offences.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.

Investigations are ongoing.
