Danica's Dream Fund has been chosen as LLW Repository Ltd's Charity of the Year for 2019/20.
The Egremont based charity proved the overwhelming choice of the workforce and John Maxwell, the late Danica's Dad, who works at the Repository, is delighted they are to support it with a series of fund-raising initiatives.
"It's brilliant," said John. "This is the third time I had nominated it for Charity of the Year, and it had twice finished second. I know more people on the site now, and more people know about the charity."
Danica passed away in 2010 aged just 15, following three brain tumours. The charity has since raised over £200,000 for those aged up to 23 living with cancer, and their families. They may fund a night or a weekend away from hospital, or even make a young person's dream come true.
The family of one terminally ill seven year old boy approached a national charity to see if it could fulfil his wish of driving a go-kart.
The charity agreed but due to admin issues it was going to take six weeks to arrange, and the youngster had only two weeks to live. The family then turned to Danica's Dream Fund and it had the cash within a couple of days.
Before her death, Danica had asked her parents to later launch the charity to help others, and it grew quickly.
"I thought, if we got £10,000 I would be chuffed to bits, but we got that within a couple of months," John added.
The workforce raised a record £9,339 for last year's Charity of the Year, Give Us A Break 2010, which is raising money to fund a short stay centre in West Cumbria for disabled children and their families.
