Darraweit Rd Intersection Closure for Wallan Upgrade

Council is delivering a significant upgrade to Darraweit Road in Wallan.

The $2.7 million project will see the section between Acacia Way and Roulston Way upgraded including underground drainage, kerbing, and reconstruction of the road pavement to ensure a safer and more durable road for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The project is part of the Australian Government's $11 million commitment towards the Macedon and Mitchell Shire Roads project. A total of $5.5 million is being provided towards the Darraweit Road works and the Wellington Street upgrade. Mitchell Shire Council is also committing $200,000 towards the projects.

Work is progressing well, with crews now focused on reconstructing the road surface following retaining wall and drainage works earlier in the project.

The current stage of works will see the road base and pavement rebuilt in preparation for new asphalt to be laid in mid-December.

To allow these works to continue safely and efficiently, some temporary intersection closures will be in place:

  • Darraweit Road and Acacia Way: Closed until Monday 10 November
  • Darraweit Road and Zack Street: Closed until Monday 10 November
  • Darraweit Road and Roulston Way: Closed from Tuesday 11 November for approximately six weeks

During this time:

  • Detours are in place. Drivers are encouraged to follow traffic management signage and allow extra travel time, as minor delays are expected during peak periods.
  • Three bus stops near the Acacia Way intersection are temporarily closed, with passengers redirected to nearby stops along Darraweit Road.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Visit the project page for ongoing updates.
