Deadline for Safer Communities funding approaching

The closing date for applications for the latest round of Safer Communities funding is looming.

Local councils have until September 25 to apply for funding to help make their communities safer.

The Safer Communities Fund has already assisted more than 200 recipients to upgrade security infrastructure such as CCTV cameras, enhanced lighting and environmental design initiatives to prevent crime.

A further $30 million is available to enable communities for similar projects under round three of the Safer Communities Fund.

This latest funding round brings the total amount available under the Safer Communities Fund to $70 million between 2016-17 and 2019-20.

The Minster for Home Affairs Peter Dutton said that all Australians have a right to feel safe and secure when their communities come together.

"The Safer Communities Fund strengthens the capability of local councils and community organisations to address crime and anti-social behaviour," Mr Dutton said.

"I encourage local councils and community organisations to apply as soon as possible."

Information on how to apply for funding is available on the Australian Government's Safer Communities Fund – Infrastructure Stream website at business.gov.au/safer-communities-fund , or by calling 13 28 46.

Applicants can also apply for funding for activity-based youth engagement or crime prevention projects, targeted at Police‑Citizens Youth Clubs, Blue Light organisations and Youth off the Streets.
