Northern Territory Police are investigating the death of a man south of Katherine early this morning.
Shortly after 4am, Police were called to a residence 30km south of the township in response to a reported intruder on premises.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jakson Evans said, "On arrival police located the body of a man with an apparent gunshot wound.
"A male resident of the household was arrested and remains in custody, where he is assisting police with inquiries."
Investigations are ongoing to formally identify the deceased and to determine the circumstances leading up to his death.
"It is still very early in the investigation and many details are as yet unclear. We are still processing the crime scene."
