Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary 28 April

On April 24, 2020, Gerald Cooke, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. Cooke, 74 years old, had been serving a life sentence since November 17, 1995. His offences included second degree murder and attempted murder.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
