Death of an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary – Medium Security Unit: CA

On October 20, 2018, James Blanchfield, an inmate from Dorchester Penitentiary died while in our custody of apparent natural causes following an illness.

At the time of his death, Mr. Blanchfield, 61 years old, had been serving, since 2017, a 2 years sentence for possession of child pornography and fail to comply with probation order.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
