Dig out the decorations and dust of the fairy lights... Western Downs residents are invited to spruce, snap and submit their best festive displays as part of the annual Christmas in the Country competition.
With gift cards up for grabs for the best Christmas displays, Western Downs Regional Council is calling upon the community to transform their property entrances, mailboxes and gates into a celebration of Christmas in the Western Downs.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Peter Saxelby said the competition captures the magic of Christmas across the region's unique rural landscapes.
"Christmas time is a wonderful opportunity for friends, families and neighbours to come together to mark what makes living in the Western Downs truly unique," Cr Saxelby said.
"It's Christmas with a country twist, and we're hoping to see lots of tinsel draped across farm fences and tractors are decorated with all trimmings.
"This year's Christmas in the Country competition will spread festive cheer across the paddocks to main streets right across the Western Downs."
Cr Saxelby said a keen judging panel was looking forward to seeing lots of entries that reflect the spirit of a Western Downs Christmas and the Australian Summer.
"From our thriving agriculture and manufacturing sector to out vibrant arts community the Westen Downs is brimming with ingenuity and creativity, and we can't wait to see your Christmas creations," he said.
"Judges will be looking for entries that encapsulate the joy of living in the Western Downs and embody what makes our communities special.
"On the Western Downs we know it's the people that make it and the community spirit always carries us through to the next year."
Christmas in the Country encourages locals to send in a photo of their Christmas displays, with a $200 Gift Card up for grabs for the most eye-catching creation, $100 for second place, and a $50 Gift Card awarded through a lucky draw.
