Dementia Australia and Carers NT Alice Springs office will provide a more convenient and accessible option for clients when they officially open a new collocated premises tomorrow, Tuesday 1 May 2018.
The shared premises will cater for people impacted by dementia and their carers, and carers who provide care and support to a family member or friend who has disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue, or is frail aged.
The new office, at Shop 1, 9 Parsons Street in Alice Springs will be officially opened by Ms Fran Kilgariff AM at 10.30am.
Dementia Australia Team Leader Client Services Northern Territory Susan Williams said the relocation is an exciting time for Dementia Australia and Carers NT.
"In addition to providing support for people of all ages living with all forms of dementia, Dementia Australia supports carers through the provision of education and information to help them provide the best care possible while also maintaining quality of life for both themselves and the person with dementia," Ms Williams said.
"Our relocation means a more accessible place for people with dementia, their carers and clients of Carers NT to access services, support and information."
Mr Steve Vitone, Carers NT Chief Executive Officer, said the collaboration between Carers NT and Dementia Australia working in a shared space will benefit Territorians of Central Australia.
"We look forward to working collaboratively with Dementia Australia and other service providers to deliver support to Central Australians in a caring role. Alice Springs is unique in many ways and Carers NT will continue to support carers in a manner that is appropriate and flexible to their needs"
Both organisations are dedicated to improving the lives of Territorians through support services including counselling, education and training as well as referrals to other support agencies.
The Alice Springs collocation will ensure clients can access a range of services without having to travel between offices, providing greater efficiencies and coordination in service delivery.
Dementia Australia is the national peak body for people, of all ages, living with all forms of dementia, their families and carers. It provides advocacy, support services, education and information. An estimated 425,000 people have dementia in Australia. This number is projected to reach more than 1.1 million by 2056. Dementia Australia is the new voice of Alzheimer’s Australia. Dementia Australia’s services are supported by the Australian Government.
