Deprivation of liberty in Brisbane, QLD

Detectives from the Southern Brisbane Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man after an incident involving the alleged deprivation of liberty of a woman using a ride sharing service last night, Queensland Police say.

Preliminary inquiries indicate around 11pm, the woman was being taken to a Fortitude Valley licensed premises when it is alleged the driver refused to pull over.

It will be further alleged the driver then continued to drive across Brisbane and New Farm for over an hour when the victim became concerned.

The driver is then alleged to have continued to south Brisbane via the Clem 7 Tunnel, driving in a concerning manner.

The victim attempted to get the attention of passing motorists, opening her door in an effort to get the driver to stop before he pulled over on the M1 and the woman called police.

A 45-year-old man from Logan Central has been charged with one count of deprivation of liberty and is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 5.

The 25-year-old woman was not injured during the incident.
