Des Moines ANGB Gains ANG Cyber Operations Squadrons

The Department of the Air Force has selected Des Moines Air National Guard Base, Iowa, as the preferred location to convert re-missioned manpower to support Air National Guard cyber operations.

The 2025 defense budget divested 50% of the ANG Tactical Air Control Party and Control and Reporting Center missions across the force. The 2025 defense budget also reassigned a portion of the manpower to other missions.

Iowa ANG will convert this reassigned manpower to join an existing cyber combat training squadron at the 132nd Wing, which aligns with an increase focus on cyber capabilities in support of the National Defense Strategy.

Iowa will lose seven full time personnel authorizations and 33 part-time personnel authorizations.

The service anticipates full operational capability in spring 2030.
