Designs called for Northern Regional Prison

Elise Archer,Minister for Corrections

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is continuing to progress our plan for a Northern Regional Prison with a Request for Tender (RTF) for the supply of architectural design services advertised today.

This correctional facility will create more than 1,000 jobs and deliver an economic boost of $500 million to the region, while also providing a modern facility for the North that will be specifically designed to increase rehabilitation outcomes for prisoners and their families.

The preliminary drawings will be for the first stage of construction only, which provides for 156 beds and a Remand and Reception Centre, and are necessary to support the preparation of a Combined Planning Scheme Amendment (CPSA) and Development Application (DA), to be submitted to Meander Valley Council in early 2022.

It will ensure we develop a modern, fit for purpose correctional facility that supports offender development and has a strong focus on rehabilitation and wellbeing.

Submissions will close at 2pm on Wednesday, 22 September 2021.

Tender documentation will be available on the Department of Treasury website at www.tenders.tas.gov.au.
