Detectives Investigate Attempted Carjacking In Richmond

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and appealing for public assistance following an attempted carjacking in Richmond earlier this year.

It is understood a man approached a woman on Swan Street near Richmond Railway Station about 4.50pm on Tuesday 19 August.

The man attempted to steal the woman's Mercedes sedan but was disrupted by good Samaritans who intervened.

With the Mercedes boxed in by a passerby's vehicle, the offender fled on foot from the Mercedes into an awaiting white Nissan Navara, registration 1OL9CF, which was last seen travelling southbound on Cremorne Street.

The owner of the Mercedes was not physically injured, however one of the good Samaritans appeared to sustain a facial injury.

Investigators have released CCTV and images of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries.

The offender is perceived to be of Pacific Islander/Māori appearance, aged in his mid to late 20s and about 183cm tall with a solid build.

He was wearing a black puffer jacket, black trackpants, white runners and a beanie.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or with CCTV/Dashcam footage, or any information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
