Detectives investigate credit card deceptions in Melbourne's north

Moreland Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a series of deceptions involving credit card fraud over the past two months in Brunswick and Coburg, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told an unknown male attended a retail store on Sydney Road, Brunswick about 6.30pm on 25 July.

While there, the man attempted to purchase power tools, shelving, brackets and other assorted hardware using an eftpos card.

The eftpos transaction was unsuccessful and the man ran from the store empty handed.

Investigators believe this incident may be linked to a deception that occurred on 16 June on Sydney Road in Coburg.

A man of similar description entered a motorcycle store just before 5pm and purchased a motorcycle.

It is believed the man manually entered information into the Eftpos machine to manipulate the transaction.

It was later established the sale had not been authorised however the motorcycle has not been recovered.

Police have released an image and CCTV footage of the man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
