Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal shooting in Fitzroy last night.
Police were quick to respond after hearing gunshots near the intersection of Brunswick and King William Streets just after midnight.
Upon arrival, a male was located with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services worked on the male, who is yet to be formally identified, but he died at the scene.
It is understood a vehicle fled the scene prior to police arriving.
No arrests have been made.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
