A woman has been charged with murder following an investigation into a fatal house fire in Sydney’s south last year., NSW Police say>
Just after 1.30am on Saturday 7 October 2017, police and emergency services responded to reports of a house fire on San Remo Avenue, Gymea.
On arrival, officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command located a granny flat engulfed in flames.
As firefighters battled the blaze, 39-year-old, Jeffrey Lindsell, was rescued from inside the flat and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
Mr Lindsell suffered extensive burns and passed away in hospital on Monday 9 October 2017.
Detectives from the Financial Crimes Squad’s Arson Unit established Strike Force Butler to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Following extensive investigations, Strike Force Butler detectives arrested a 46-year-old woman at a home at Marrickville just after 8.30am yesterday (Thursday 14 June 2018).
She was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with murder.
Police will allege in court the woman tampered with the water supply and deliberately lit the fire in the granny flat knowing Mr Lindsell was inside asleep.
She was refused bail and appeared at Newtown Local Court, where she was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on 14 August 2018.
