Detectives re-appeal for info following shooting in Merrylands

Detectives from Holroyd Local Area Command are re-appealing for information following the shooting of a man at Merrylands last week, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Yelverton was established to investigate the shooting, which occurred about 10.45pm on Friday 17 November 2017 in the backyard of a residence on Price Street Merrylands.

A 59-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his back and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Investigations have now established that a stolen late-model NSW registered Subaru WRX sedan, dark metallic blue in colour was possibly linked to the shooting incident.

That vehicle was located burnt out in Rees Street, Mays Hill a short time later.

Inquiries have revealed this car was stolen along with another similar Subaru with NSW registration, from a residence in Pemulwuy on the evening of Sunday 29 October 2017.

That vehicle was recovered on the 8 November 2017 in Murray Street Merrylands, which is only a short distance from where the other vehicle was set alight.

Police are after information from any members of the public who may have seen the Blue WRX parked in the Mays Hill or surrounding area prior to the shooting on the 17 November.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
