Disaster Aid for Noosa, Moreton Bay Areas

Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers The Honourable Ann Leahy
  • Eligible Noosa residents impacted by last week's hail event can now access emergency support from the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments.
  • Four more suburbs in the City of Moreton Bay have also been activated for disaster assistance.
  • Personal hardship grants can help purchase immediate essentials such as food, clothing and medicine, and cover costs to reconnect services.

Fourteen suburbs and several targeted streets across Noosa Shire have been activated for Personal Hardship Assistance in the wake of recent severe storms.

Residents in an additional four localities throughout Moreton Bay can also access the support, bringing total eligible suburbs in the Moreton council area to 65.

Households can apply for funding to cover emergency recovery needs such as replacing spoiled food, and there are a number of income-tested grants for those uninsured.

Hardship assistance for last week's hailstorms is now available to eligible residents of Moreton Bay, Noosa, Redland and Sunshine Coast, funded under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Today's new personal hardship activations cover:

Noosa: Boreen Point, Como, Cooran, Cooroibah, Cootharaba, Doonan, Kin Kin, Lake Macdonald, Noosa North Shore, Peregian Beach, Pinbarren, Ridgewood, Ringtail Creek, Tinbeerwah.

Noosa (targeted streets): Black Mountain, Cooroy, Cooroy Mountain, Federal, Noosa Heads, Pomona, Sunrise Beach.

Moreton Bay: Kobble Creek, Moodlu, Mount Glorious, Mount Samson.

Visit www.qld.gov.au/disasterhelp to see all activated locations, check eligibility criteria, and to apply for grants.

Queenslanders can also call the 24/7 Queensland Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349 for information and applications.

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said Personal Hardship Assistance was vital to help people get back on their feet following a disaster event.

"These grants put cash in pockets quickly to allow for those critical purchases following storm damage, things like food, clothing and medicine," Minister McBain said.

"Through the DRFA, the Albanese and Crisafulli Governments have a strong and proven support framework in place to make sure Queenslanders are cared for in the wake of extreme weather."

Queensland Minister for Disaster Recovery Ann Leahy said work will continue with councils to make sure all impacted communities are supported as they rebuild.

"Recovery from these hailstorms won't be measured in days but in weeks and months, and it's important we have all necessary assistance available," Minister Leahy said.

"The Queensland Reconstruction Authority will continue working with councils and our Community Recovery team to identify where help is needed and to ensure its delivery."
