Disaster funding sought

Council will seek $550,000 from the Queensland Government's Disaster Resilience Fund to address sand loss at Holloways Beach and expedite works to inspect the region's stormwater drainage system.

The Holloways Beach project will build a groyne – stage one of a three-stage project - to protect the beach from erosion caused by wave action during high tide and storms.

Beach erosion regularly impacts the foreshore, stinger nets and the lifesaver hut.

Council annually inspects about 20% of the region's 610km of underground stormwater drainage system using CCTV.

Funding from the State will support the continued implementation of this CCTV inspection program ensuring repair and maintenance activities can be targeted at the areas of highest priority.
