Disaster Relief Fund support extended: Bega Valley

The Bega Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund (BVCDRF) has been extended to further support the wellbeing and resilience of the community in the wake of compounding natural disasters since 2019.

Individuals who have been impacted by any of the natural disasters since 2019 may be eligible for assistance, along with community groups who can deliver mental health programs, projects and events.

Bega Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund Co-Chair, Mick Brosnan said this next phase of financial support represents another key step on the path to recovery.

"Many in our community are still doing it tough and by keeping the focus of the fund on wellbeing the hope is that resilience will continue to build across the community," Mr Brosnan said.

"It has been so encouraging to see how well the Bega Valley community has stuck together over the past couple of years and as a committee we are very keen to be able to support those with great ideas to make them a reality.

"Events such as FireUp Cobargo and Imagine Eden, which were supported through Round 3 of the BVCDRF, brought great energy and a togetherness to those communities and we want to keep the momentum going.

"The financial support that has come from across Australia and the world since the fires has been simply remarkable, however, the perpetual nature of the fund means we are always very keen to hear from businesses, community groups or individuals who wish to financially contribute to the fund," Mr Brosnan said.

The BVCDRF was established to support the Bega Valley community in the aftermath of major disasters, such as the Black Summer bushfires. It is governed and managed by the Social Justice Advocates of the Sapphire Coast, Council and independent community members.
