Latrobe City Council is pleased to announce the launch of a brand-new Disc Golf course in Churchill.
The 18-hole course begins at Mathison Park and is one of only a few full courses of its kind in Victoria. Designed for all ages and skill levels, it's a free, family-friendly activity that combines the precision of golf with the fun of a flying disc.
Players aim to land their disc in a series of metal baskets in as few throws as possible. Disc golf is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, get active, and connect with others.
The course was developed in direct response to community feedback gathered during a 2022 co-design session with Kurnai College, where increasing recreational opportunities in Churchill was identified as a key priority. The course is also thanks to VicHealth through Council's VicHealth Local Government partnership.
To celebrate the opening, Council will host a launch event on Friday 28 November 2025 from 4pm to 7pm at Mathison Park. The event will feature a free community barbecue, try-it sessions and showbags for the first 50 attendees.
Following the launch, the course will be freely accessible to the public every day. Discs will also be available for free hire through Latrobe Leisure Churchill, making it easy for anyone to give the sport a go.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dale Harriman, said the course is an exciting addition to Latrobe City's growing range of outdoor recreation options.
"Having a disc golf course in Latrobe City will provide many opportunities for our local community, whether it's through competitions, casual games, or simply enjoying time outdoors with friends," said the Mayor.
"I encourage everyone to join us at the Disc Golf launch - come along, have a throw, and experience it for yourself!"
Works are also underway at Mathison Park, with a new adventure playground expected to be completed by mid-2026. Some temporary closures will be in place while upgrades occur. Learn more at: www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/Mathison_Park
