A disqualified motorcyclist has been caught allegedly travelling 120km/h over the speed limit near Canberra yesterday, NSW Police say.
Just after 9am yesterday, police from Queanbeyan Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Federal Highway at Brooks Creek near Bywong, when they allegedly detected a blue Honda 900cc motorcycle allegedly travelling 148km/h in a 110km/h zone.
Police activated lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the motorcycle.
It will be alleged the rider reached speeds of 230km/h; however, no pursuit was initiated due to safety concerns.
The rider did not stop and continued towards Canberra.
Following inquiries, police attended a home on Tempe Crescent, Googong, and spoke to a 43-year-old man.
Further checks revealed the man’s Learner’s licence was disqualified until January 2017.
He was arrested and following a search, police located and seized cannabis leaf.
The man was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and issued a Court Attendance Notice for police pursuit – not stop ("Skye’s Law"), drive whilst disqualified, drive at speed dangerous to the public, exceed speed limit over 45km/h, possess prohibited drug and possess utensils for administration of prohibited drug.
The man is due to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on 10 October 2016.
A notice of licence suspension was also issued, and the man’s motorcycle has been seized for three months.
