Disturbance at Yatala Labour Prison, SA

Police and emergency services are currently at Yatala Labour Prison after reports a number of inmates had taken control of a small area of the prison, according to SA Police.

At 4.15pm on Tuesday 22 August, police and emergency services were called to the prison on Grand Junction Road in Northfield after reports that a number of prisoners had refused to return to their cells.

The incident was managed by Department for Correctional Services until 9pm, when management of the incident was officially handed to SA Police.

Police are currently negotiating with the inmates inside the facility and aim to peacefully resolve the incident.

No staff members have been injured as a result of the incident and there are no staff members currently within the affected area of the facility.

The inmates are in a cordoned area of the facility and there is no risk to public safety.
