Nominations are open for Wodonga Council's Australia Day citizen awards.
The awards provide an opportunity to recognise the excellent work being done by many people within our community.
This year marks 40 years since Wodonga first hosted the awards.
There are three categories - Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Organisation of the Year - and all residents of Wodonga who are Australian citizens are eligible for nomination.
Rupinder Kaur was named Citizen of the Year for 2019.
The initial news that she had been awarded the top Australia Day honour left the advocate for the prevention of family violence overwhelmed and in tears.
"I am very humbled to receive this award, it means a lot to me," she said when accepting her award.
Born in India, Rupinder came to Australia and settled in Wodonga in 2007. She became a proud Australian citizen in 2013.
"I love living in Wodonga and the opportunities available to me here in Australia," she said.
Australia Day committee representative Cr Danny Lowe encouraged residents to put some serious thought into who they could put forward for the awards.
"There are many people within our community who give countless hours of their time to help others. This is a great way we can recognise and thank them for all of their hard work," he said.
The awards will be presented at the council's Australia Day celebrations on Sunday, January 26, 2020.
Nominations close Monday, December 2 and should be made online via wod.city/AusDayAward
