Do You Still Have Yellow Lid On Your Rubbish Bin?

We are close to finishing the changeover of residential rubbish bin lids in Knox from yellow to red to meet state government rules .

Thanks to your help, we have already changed approximately 90% (over 62,000) rubbish bin lids from yellow to red but there are a few to go. If your rubbish bin still has a yellow lid, thank you for your patience. Here's what you need to know:

  • The same team that collects your rubbish will also be changing the remaining lids.
  • Trucks can only carry a limited number of new red lids at a time. If your lid is not changed one day, it will be done on a future rubbish collection day. Keep putting your bin out on your usual rubbish collection day until your lid is changed.
  • Your rubbish bin will be collected as normal, whether it has a yellow or red lid.

After 1 October

If you haven't received your new red lid by 1 October, you can:

  • Continue to leave your rubbish bin out on your usual rubbish collection day. Do this every fortnight until you get your new red lid, or;
  • Lodge a request with us online .

Why are lids changing?

Lids are being changed as part of Victoria's plan for a circular economy , which requires everyone in Victoria to have the same colour bin lids, helping us all put the right things in the right bin and manage our waste better.
