Doctors have today responded to the attack on three people at Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney by warning that people are at risk of being attacked or killed in hospital emergency departments because governments have underfunded hospital emergency departments.
"Ït is tragic but predictable that we have had attacks on patients and staff at Prince Alfred Hospital emergency department"said Dr Con Costa President (NSW) of Doctors Reform Society
"It is dangerous and disgraceful that both state and federal governments have underfunded hospital emergency departments resulting in overcrowding of patients and inadequate staff including security staff.We welcome the Labor parties announcement today that they will give an extra $500 million to fund emergency departments "said Dr Con Costa
"As doctors we warn that people,both staff and patients could die from attacks in hospital emergency departments unless extra funding for security and mental health staff are urgently provided to hospital emergency departments."said Dr Con Costa
