Emergencies can strike without warning. Planning ahead and being ready can make all the difference.

As part of Emergency Redi Week (Monday 15 September to Sunday 21 September 2025), City of Ryde residents are being urged to be prepared by attending workshops and by following these three key steps:

  • Be informed – know what emergencies can happen and where to find information.
  • Make an emergency plan - whether you are a resident, strata or business.
  • Know your neighbours - Knowing your neighbours enhances safety, especially in isolated or high-risk areas.

A simple way to take control ahead of an emergency is to download the Get Prepared app, which is co-created by the Australian Red Cross and NRMA. The app is a free and easy to use one-stop tool to help residents prepare for any type of emergency.

As part of Emergency Redi Week, local workshops are being held to help residents build their emergency plans and learn practical skills.

To further support residents prepare for an emergency, other helpful apps include:

  • Hazards Near Me: Set up a watch zone to receive real-time alerts about changing conditions (iOS and Android).
  • Emergency Plus: Use the 'what3words' feature to share your exact location with emergency services (iOS and Android).
  • Live Traffic NSW: Stay informed about road hazards and plan your route accordingly (iOS and Android).
  • BOM Weather: Access up-to-date weather forecasts and warnings (iOS and Android).
