Two newly-licenced P-Plate drivers won’t be behind the wheel for some time after they were caught allegedly speeding at almost double the speed limit in Sale on Saturday, Victoria Police say.
Wellington Highway Patrol members observed three vehicles travelling at speed along Raglan Street shortly before 1.30am on 26 August.
One of the vehicles turned off before the other two started to race each other side by side, allegedly reaching speeds of 138km/h in a 70km/h zone.
Both of the vehicles were intercepted by police.
The P1 probationary driver of one of the vehicles, a 28-year-old Fulham man, had one passenger in the car with him.
The second driver, a 28-year-old Sale man who also had a P1 probationary licence, had two passengers in the vehicle.
Both drivers are expected to be charged on summons with reckless conduct endangering life, unauthorised vehicle racing and other traffic-related offences.
