Six Townsville groups will be able to bring meaningful events and programs to the city with the help of community grants passed at today's Council meeting.
The grants approved and noted at the meeting include:
- The Queensland Country Rugby Union Championships 2026 for $25,000
- L2Ps Driving Initiative for $25,000
- Kelpie Camps Netball Clinics for $2113
- Northern Beaches Community Christmas Carols for $4893
- Pre-Loved Gifts for $2637.09
- The Christmas Party Townsville for children with a disability for $5000.
Mayor Nick Dametto said the grants would help bring a wide range of residents together in the coming months.
"Council's Community Grants and Partnerships program is just one way that Council can support the community and build a city where everyone can engage in our community and lifestyle," Cr Dametto said.
"The grants that have been discussed in today's meeting range from sports to neighbourhood events to driver education, reflecting the varied needs of the Townsville community.
"Some of these events, including the Queensland Country Rugby Union Championships and Kelpie Camps' Netball Clinics, will drive visitors to Townsville, boosting our local economy."
The Council also voted to approve six Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants for:
- Michael Smith - CROOKED magazine for $8147.50
- The Townsville Folk and Acoustic Music Club - Rising Stars Band Academy for $8811.10
- CBFE Incorporated - The Box Project for $9101.10
- Shakespeare Under the Stars - TheatreiNQ at the Civic for $9101.10
- Cameron Deyell – Creative Music Studio in Townsville for $8238.10
- Townsville Live Collective – Strategic overview and action plan for $9101.10.
Council partners with Arts Queensland to deliver RADF grants, which support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
