Driver Charged After South Tamworth Pursuit, Crash

A man has been charged after a pursuit and crash in the state's west yesterday.

About 7.30am yesterday (Tuesday 10 June 2025), officers attached to Western Region DV High Risk Team attended a home on Flynn Street, South Tamworth, to speak with a 24-year-old man in relation to alleged domestic violence offences.

Upon arrival, officers approached a Holden sedan, with the man inside allegedly attempting to conceal himself, before taking off in the vehicle.

A pursuit was initiated when the driver failed to stop.

The pursuit continued through Depot Street through to Goonoo Goonoo Road, before officers lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit.

The vehicle continued before crashing into a sign at a service station on the intersection of Goonoo Goonoo Road and Edgeroy Street.

A foot pursuit ensued as the man allegedly ran into nearby residences before jumping the fence of a property on Karwin Street and was arrested shortly after.

It is alleged during the arrest, the 24-year-old man resisted officers and OC Spray was deployed.

The man was subsequently searched with police allegedly seizing methylamphetamine.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he charged with 10 offences:

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
  • Not give particulars to owner of damaged property
  • Learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester
  • Learner driver not display "L" plates as prescribed
  • Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed
  • Drive unregistered vehicle on road or road related area
  • Use uninsured motor vehicle on road
  • Hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty, and
  • Possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 10 June 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court today (Wednesday 11 June 2025).
