Driver charged over fatal crash in Sydney’s south

A man has been charged over a fatal crash in Sydney’s south three months ago.

About 4pm on Tuesday 11 August 2015, police and emergency services were called after a truck and two cars collided on a bridge on Heathcote Road, Heathcote. 

The driver of one of the vehicles – a 39-year-old Engadine man – died at the scene.

The truck driver – a 42-year-old Yagoona man – was taken to St George Hospital for treatment to a broken leg. His passenger – a 38-year-old Sefton man – was uninjured. 

The driver of the third vehicle – a 28-year-old Cordeaux Heights woman – was taken to Bankstown Hospital as a precaution.

Police from Sutherland Local Area Command attended the location and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist officers from Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

Following extensive inquiries, the 42-year-old truck driver was issued a Court Attendance Notice for the offences of dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and drive with illicit substance in blood.

His driver’s licence has also been suspended by police.

He is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Monday 7 December 2015.
