Driver dies after multi-vehicle crash, NSW

A man has died in a multiple vehicle crash in the state’s west, NSW Police say.

About 10.50am yesterday (Sunday 18 March 2018), a collision occurred between a Toyota Hilux utility and a semi-trailer in the southbound lanes of the Newell Highway, Mirrool, about 45km south of West Wyalong.

Following this crash, a B-double collided with the rear of the Hilux. Following this, another Hilux, carrying a caravan, swerved into the northbound lanes.

A Mitsubishi Lancer and a Holden Colorado travelling south then stopped and were hit from behind by a bus.

As a result of the crash the 60-year-old man driving the Colorado sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to Canberra Hospital where he later died.

The 60-year-old male driver of the bus was uninjured, he was taken to West Wyalong Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Police from Griffith Police District commenced an investigation. The Newell Highway was closed for several hours while investigations were conducted.

The crash occurred during a severe dust storm in the area.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
