Driver escapes car park crash in Westmead

A driver has been released from her car after she reversed through a guard rail on the top level of the car park at Westmead Hospital a short time ago, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were alerted about 7.55am today, and arrived to find rear end of the Mazda sedan hanging over the edge of the car park, with the female driver trapped inside.

Fire-fighters from Fire & Rescue NSW secured the vehicle and the driver was able to climb out safely.

The driver, a 50-year-old woman from Newcastle, escaped injury but is being treated for the effects of shock.

It’s believed the rear of the vehicle caught onto a fence on the other side of the car park, which prevented it from falling 3m to the lower level.

A tow truck has been called to remove the vehicle.
