A 25-year-old woman from College Park has been fined $253 for reading a book while driving.
At about 5pm on Monday 11 May a concerned member of the public spotted a woman driving along Lower North East Road, Campbelltown while reading a book.
The member of the public recorded the incident and gave the footage to police.
As a result, officers from the Road Policing Section later issued the woman an expiation notice for failing to keep proper control of a vehicle.
Driving is a complex task and anything that serves as a distraction from that task, including using a mobile phone or reading a book, can significantly impair your reaction time, your ability to maintain speed and your ability to judge safe gaps in traffic.
In 2019 there were 46 lives lost in collisions where distraction was a contributing factor. In 2020 we have already seen 24 lives lost due to distraction.
