Driver hospitalised after truck crash, NSW

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers, working as part of Operation StateTrans, have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a truck crash at Eastern Creek this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 3pm today a semi trailer was travelling west along Wonderland Drive when it struck a B-double truck parked on the southern side of the street.

The force of the impact extensively damaged all vehicles and trailers in both combinations.

The driver of the semi trailer, a 48-year-old man, was trapped in the wreckage after the dashboard of his vehicle compressed his left leg.

Once freed from the wreckage, the man was taken by Ambulance Paramedics to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Investigators are attempting to determine the cause of the crash; however, fatigue is believed to be a contributing factor.

Police from Mt Druitt Local Area Command attended and issued two infringements to the driver of the B-double for work diary offences. Both vehicles were also defected at the scene.

Inquiries into the cause of the crash continue with the driver of the semi-trailer to be spoken to when his condition improves.

Operation StateTrans, a multi-state police and road agency operation, will continue throughout the month of May.
