Driver sought after pursuit, crash - Mid North Coast

An investigation has commenced after a vehicle crashed following a pursuit with police on the Mid North Coast overnight.

About 11.40pm (Friday 29 January 2021), officers from the Mid North Coast Traffic and Highway Patrol observed a Holden sedan travelling on South Street, South Kempsey, above the sign posted 60km/h speed limit.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, which accelerated away.

A pursuit was initiated, travelling along Gowings Hill Road before the vehicle failed to negotiate a bend near the intersection of Dondingalong Rd and left the roadway, colliding with trees.

The male driver ran off, through a nearby paddock as the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The passengers - a 28-year-old woman and two children, aged three and four - were trapped and freed from the vehicle by officers.

They were treated by paramedics and taken to Port Macquarie Hospital suffering minor injuries.
