Driver takes off from police at Renown Park, SA

A driver abandoned his car after taking off from police at Renown Park overnight, according to SA Police.

Police were called to the Renown Park area about 3.30am on Thursday 8 September by reports of a white car doing burnouts.

A white Mitsubishi Lancer took off after the driver spotted an unmarked patrol car on Exeter Terrace, Devon Park about 3.40am, and the patrol immediately lost sight of it.

While the patrol searched the area, they received information from a member of the public that a car had been involved in a minor collision in Devonport Terrace, Dudley Park. They located the vehicle a short time later. It had collided with a fence at slow speed as the driver had attempted to pull off the road into a vacant block. The driver and passenger had abandoned the car, but are not believed to have been injured.

Police Dog Jack managed to track the two occupants of the car for some distance, but was unable to locate them.

Inquiries are continuing.
