Driver unhurt after truck fire near Wollongong, NSW

A truck driver has escaped injury after his fully-laden fuel tanker caught fire near Wollongong this morning.

About 8.40am (Friday 4 January 2019), the tanker caught fire after the driver pulled to the side of the M1 (Princes Highway) near the Figtree on-ramp.

The 44-year-old male driver, and only occupant, was able to escape the vehicle.

The firefighting operation is continuing. Residents in homes nearby are being requested to leave as a precaution.
