Drivers suspended for excessive speed in Singleton

Police stopped two vehicles overnight at Singleton after they were detected travelling more than 45 km/h over the speed limit, NSW Police say.

About 10pm last night (Friday 23 February 2018), police were conducting speed enforcement duties on Queen Street, Singleton, when two vehicles were detected travelling over the speed limit.

The first vehicle, a Ford Falcon sedan, was detected travelling at 144km/h in a 60 km/h area. The driver failed to stop for police before accelerating away from the area.

Police from Hunter Valley Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped the sedan a short distance away.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, returned a positive result to a roadside breath test.

He was arrested and taken to Singleton Police Station where it will be alleged he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.059.

He was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for low-range drink driving and will appear at Singleton Local Court on Thursday 3 May 2018.

The man was also issued with two infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h and a for a vehicle standards offence.

His licence was seized and suspended for six months.

The second vehicle, a silver Holden Commodore, was stopped by police after it was detected travelling at 140km/h in a 60 km/h area.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, was issued with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h.

His licence was also seized and suspended for six months.
