Drivers urged to avoid Blakey's Crossing

Townsville City Council is urging motorists to avoid a section of Ingham Road while crews upgrade the bridge at Blakey's Crossing.

Ingham Road will be closed between Duckworth Street and Mather Street on Wednesday 11 November and Thursday 12 November.

Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Services Committee chairperson Mark Molachino said Council is making a long-term investment in Ingham Road.

"This stretch of Ingham Road is an important part of Townsville's road network – it is a key link to Townsville Airport, RAAF Base Townsville and businesses in the area," Cr Molachino said.

"The maintenance works include the replacement of a joint in the bridge and the road surface and that means the Blakey's Crossing has to be closed for two days."

Cr Molachino said people should plan ahead and go around the area.

"Council is taking steps to help people in the area – electronic message boards and detour signs will be in place throughout the project," Cr Molachino said.

"I'd like to thank Townsville motorists for their patience and understanding as crews work on Blakey's Crossing."
