Driving causing grievous bodily harm in Gladstone, QLD

Police have charged a man following an incident in which a man was struck by a vehicle in Gladstone overnight, Queensland Police say.

At around 6:20pm a man became involved in an argument with a 63-year-old man at an address on Oaka Lane.

It will be alleged the man then took another person’s car that was parked inside the yard at Oaka Lane and driven through a vacant block onto Lord Street. The man has then driven in Oaka Lane and into the driveway of the original residence allegedly driving directly towards the 63-year-old man, striking and pinning him under the vehicle.

Police will further allege the man then punched a 46-year-old woman when she attempted to remove the keys from the car, which she owned.

Officers attended and took the man into custody at the scene.

The 63-year-old man was transported to Gladstone Hospital for treatment of a possible broken ankle and fractured pelvis.

A 64-year-old Gladstone Central man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, assault occasioning bodily harm, failure to render assistance at incident scene and failure to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

He is due to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on July 30.
