Drug and weapon charges for man in Merewether

A man will face court next month faced with several drug and weapon charges following a search warrant in Newcastle, NSW Police say.

Officers attached to Newcastle Local Area Command attended a unit on Watkins Street, Merewether, and executed a search warrant just before 9am today.

During the search, police allegedly located and seized drugs, including MDMA and cannabis, two firearms, three prohibited weapons, cash and credit cards.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with goods in custody, two counts of supply prohibited drug, two counts of possess prohibited drug, possess restricted substance, two counts of possess unauthorised pistol and three counts of possess unauthorised weapon.

The man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 31 August 2017.
